La Mesa Dental Patients Want A Choice In Dental Fillings

Tooth Colored Fillings For La Mesa Patients

With all the talk in San Diego of multi-procedure smile makeovers involving veneers, porcelain crowns, bridges, teeth whitening, dental implants, and invisible braces, sometimes the traditional dental filling is overlooked. If a cavity progresses no further than a filling, La Mesa cosmetic dental patients can avoid more extensive and invasive treatments. Today, let’s talk about dental fillings.

Most dental patients in the San Diego and La Mesa areas have a few fillings in their mouth. When a tooth has been damaged through decay, a dental filling is the most common way family dentists restore the tooth to its previous, intact condition.

Dental fillings have been used for over a hundred years, and they’ve come a long way from the silvery amalgam fillings many of us in La Mesa remember.

San Diego cosmetic dentists and dental labs have been working to formulate filling materials that are more cosmetically pleasing to their cosmetic dentistry patients.

Today, the filling material of choice in La Mesa and around the country is a composite of plastic resin with glass or quartz filler. Referred to as composite fillings, La Mesa dental patients love the fact that they can be matched to their natural tooth color, making them practically invisible. This is particularly important when the filling needs to be in a conspicuous part of the mouth, such as the front teeth.

Despite the popularity of tooth colored fillings, many San Diego dentists still find amalgam fillings appropriate in some cases. Dental amalgam is made from a metal alloy, which gives it the ability to hold strong even when the chewing load is great.

I’m Dr. Jeff Gray, a cosmetic La Mesa dentist and I work hard to make sure my clients enjoy their dental visits and love their smile. I’ve practiced dentistry since 1986, and I find it especially rewarding when La Mesa, and San Diego residents find renewed confidence after a smile makeover. So whether you are interested in replacing metal fillings with composites, or if you want to discuss tooth whitening and veneers, our staff would be happy to answer any questions you have.

San Diego Guide To Plaque, Calculus, And Cavities

San Diego Guide To Plaque, Calculus, And Cavities

Hi. I’m Dr. Jeff Gray. Welcome to my San Diego dental blog! I find that many of my patients in San Diego and the surrounding areas get a couple of dental terms mixed up. Today, I would like to clarify the differences between plaque, calculus, and cavities.

Plaque is a film that covers teeth – a sticky layer of bacteria. You can remove plaque through daily brushing and flossing. However, if it isn’t removed it can build up and harden into calculus.

Calculus, also known as tartar, is hardened plaque that also accumulates minerals from food and saliva. Regular check-ups and cleanings with your San Diego cosmetic dentist are necessary to remove tartar as well as hard-to-reach plaque.

Plaque and calculus are not cavities, but they can lead to cavities. A cavity is basically a hole in the tooth caused by decay. Because plaque and calculus contain bacteria, the bacteria release acids which accelerate tooth decay and eventually lead to more cavities. Do you suspect you may have a cavity? Talk to us about tooth colored fillings.

A good rule of thumb for San Diego dental patients is this: Avoid plaque to avoid calculus and tartar to avoid tooth decay to avoid cavities. Got it?

I hope you’ve found this helpful, and if you’re in the San Diego area and are in need of quality dental care, call our office at 619-337-7700 to schedule an appointment today.

Our friendly and professional staff would love to answer any questions you have about our services, including cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, and veneers.

Diet Changes For Healthier Teeth In La Mesa

Diet Changes For Healthier Teeth In La Mesa

Hello, I am Dr. Jeff Gray of Jeff Gray DDS in La Mesa. Today’s blog topic is ‘How Your Diet Affects Your Smile.’

I’m sure you brush and floss regularly and hopefully visit your La Mesa cosmetic dentist for cleanings, but did you know that making small changes to your diet can improve your oral health?

Most La Mesa residents are aware that sugar found in candy, cookies, and sodas can harm your teeth, but some La Mesa people don’t realize that all carbohydrates can cause cavities. A handful of pretzels or a piece of pumpernickel bread can have the same effect on your teeth as a fudge brownie.

All carbohydrates break down into simple sugars, which are converted into plaque, which can then cause cavities and gum disease. Carbs are naturally sticky and adhere to your teeth. Eating carbs with meals is healthier than eating them as snacks because more saliva is generated at mealtime. Saliva helps prevent food particles from sticking to teeth.

At Jeff Gray DDS, I continue to see tooth damage caused by sodas and sports drinks. If you choose to drink them, sip them through a straw. By limiting the contact of these drinks on your teeth, you will help preserve your enamel.

Another way La Mesa folks can improve their oral health is to get 800mg of calcium a day for men and 1,000mg for women under 50. Calcium helps strengthen your jaw and secure your teeth firmly in the jaw bone.

Diet alone will not prevent cavities and gum disease for La Mesa folks, however, a few changes in eating habits can help maintain healthy teeth and gums. Do you have a cavity? Talk to us about tooth colored fillings.

Relieving Your Dental Anxiety At Jeff Gray DDS

Relieving Your Dental Anxiety At Jeff Gray DDS

Hello San Diego dental blog visitors, welcome to the Jeff Gray DDS blog. I am Dr. Jeff Gray and I specialize in cosmetic and sedation dentistry.

A close San Diego friend of mine recently expressed fears about her upcoming root canal. She was anxious about the pain she might experience and worried about getting work off for the multiple office visits to complete the procedure. I assured her that painful root canal procedures are a thing of the past with modern San Diego dentistry.

With the latest technology and anesthetics, a root canal (endodontic treatment) is no more painful than receiving tooth colored fillings. Most root canals can be completed in one or two short office visits.

My friend’s anxiety was diminished when she knew what to expect. If you have been neglecting your teeth because of fears or concerns about a particular procedure and have not been to your San Diego cosmetic dentist recently, I encourage you to schedule an exam, cleaning, and consultation today. We are accepting new San Diego dentistry patients at Jeff Gray DDS.

My staff and I at Jeff Gray DDS offer Invisalign braces, fast teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and all general and preventative dental procedures.

If you are interested in a stress-free visit to the dentist, call us today to schedule an appointment.

How Do You Measure Success in La Mesa?

Affordable San Diego Tooth Bleaching At Jeff Gray DDS, we are all about success.  Dr. Jeff Gray’s experience, ability, and commitment to dental excellence result in successful outcomes daily for our dentistry clients. Each team member at Jeff Gray DDS shares Dr. Gray’s passion for success.

For many La Mesa dental patients, success is a routine check-up that reveals healthy teeth and no cavities. For our cosmetic dental clients, success is a stunning smile makeover using veneers, teeth whitening and tooth colored fillings. For our La Mesa patients with a missing tooth, dental implants are used to successfully restore their smile. It is exciting to see implant recipients smile for the first time after receiving their new tooth implant.

We also enjoy completing successful tooth-straightening procedures for adults. Though these transformations take longer than one-visit smile re-designs, the results are no less incredible. We offer Invisalign invisible braces.  In fact, our La Mesa orthodontic patients probably appreciate their straight teeth and beautiful smile more than any of our other patients.

Success sometimes means removing tetracycline stains for a La Mesa teeth whitening patient who has been hiding his/her smile for years. Sometimes, success is as simple as helping a nervous patient feel relaxed and comfortable during their visit to our La Mesa dental office.

What do you desire for your smile? At Jeff Gray DDS, our success depends on your complete smile satisfaction.

To meet our cosmetic dentistry team and discuss your smile specifics, call Jeff Gray DDS at 619-337-7700.

Tooth-Colored Fillings in San Diego

Tooth-Colored Fillings in San Diego Hello! Welcome to the Jeff Gray DDS blog. If this your first visit, we hope you find useful information about our San Diego cosmetic dentistry practice. If you have read some of our previous articles, we are glad you checked back with us. We post new articles regularly.

My name is Dr. Jeff Gray, DDS. I have been practicing dentistry in La Mesa since 1986. Jeff Gray DDS is a full-service dental office located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway #102, La Mesa, CA in La Mesa. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the San Diego area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.

When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, a dental restoration is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.

If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings that are tooth colored. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our San Diego cosmetic dentistry patients have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.

Another reason some San Diego clients have had their old fillings replaced with tooth colored fillings is because they are concerned about the possible heavy metal toxicity of the mercury in the silver.

If you would like to replace your amalgam fillings, call us at 619-337-7700 to schedule a consultation. We are currently accepting new patients and would be happy to show you around our San Diego cosmetic dental office and introduce you to our friendly team.

Smile – it increases your face value!

Tooth Decay in San Diego?

San Diego Teeth Whitening At Jeff Gray DDS, we restore decayed teeth to create smiles that are both healthy and beautiful. Recent advances in both techniques and materials have made the ‘impossible’ not only possible, but affordable for everyone in La Mesa and San Diego as well.

Dr. Jeff Gray has been restoring teeth since 1986. Ongoing training is essential for staying on the cutting edge of the cosmetic dentistry industry.

Decay is the most common dental problem and the second most common disease in the nation (number one is the common cold). If you have one or more teeth with decay, it’s time to take care of them.

Fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns are used to restore teeth for our San Diego cosmetic dental patients. Even the most basic procedure – filling a cavity – has evolved. There are several types of new materials available including porcelain and composite resin. Each has specific strengths and aesthetic considerations. La Mesa and San Diego patients who replace silver amalgam with tooth-colored fillings love getting the metal out of their smile.

Inlays and onlays are more extensive restorations. There are two types: direct or indirect. Direct inlays and onlays are made in your San Diego cosmetic dental office on the spot and applied in one visit. Indirect inlays and onlays are fabricated in a San Diego dental lab. They usually require a second visit but the results are well worth the extra trip.

When a San Diego client has a tooth that cannot be restored with an inlay or an onlay, a natural-looking dental crown is the answer. At Jeff Gray DDS, we create crowns that blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Let us show you some photos of patients who have received smile makeovers – you will not see any “Chiclet” crowns that stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, you won’t be able to tell which of our dental clients have crowns.

Jeff Gray DDS is located at 8555 Fletcher Parkway #102, La Mesa, CA. Dr. Jeff Gray is currently accepting new patients. Call 619-337-7700 to schedule an aesthetic dental consultation
